Ten people were killed and 30 injured after a vehicle plowed into a crowd at Canal and Bourbon streets in New Orleans on Wednesday, according to NOLA Ready, the city's emergency preparedness agency.
New Orleans police said earlier that they were responding to a major casualty incident, including fatalities. NOLA Ready has advised people to stay away from the area.
Local media reported that the ramming happened as a large crowd gathered to celebrate the new year in the city's French Quarter, around 3:15 am local time.
CBS reported that witnesses said that a truck crashed into the crowd at high speed, and then the driver got out and started firing weapons, with police returning fire.
More to come.
