2024 was actually the year people became terribly aware of the dangers of getting into a streaming TV show. With hidden or completely hidden viewing figures, and the decisions of mercurial streamers rarely explained, a new favorite show – which seems to be unanimously popular – can be canceled out of the blue. But don't worry, Silo fans: the best adaptation of Hugh Howey's novels has been officially confirmed for a full four-season run.
First self-published in 2011, Hugh Howey's short story “Wool” became a word-of-mouth phenomenon. Eventually spawning three novels known as the Silo series, these are the foundation for Apple Siloa story about a post-apocalyptic society that lives in a large underground silo – a well. Written by Justifiedand Graham Yost, and Rebecca Ferguson stars (Dune), David Oyelowo and Tim Robbins, their second season is being released weekly on Apple TV +, and damn, it's so good.
Although the timing may seem a little strange given how similar it is Silosetting to Fall outunderground societies after a disaster, the two shows play out very differently. While Amazon Fall out change has definitely given more attention to bunker life than the games usually do, Silo it does not allow anyone to go out. Anyone who tries to see it drops dead just moments after the heinous heresy leaves the silo.
The result is absolutely compelling, the complex nature of the silo's hierarchical systems in conflict with the secrets behind its walls (and mirrors), all centered around Ferguson's Juliette Nichols. She is a mechanic, born high but living low, unable to escape the consequences of her parents' actions, and unafraid of the blasphemy rules surrounding “old technology,” basically anything with a CPU.
I like it. After reading the short story so long ago, the show has produced the most amazing setting, with amazing performances, beautiful direction, and the most amazing set design. With the recent trends, I would normally know better than to be involved in such a great sci-fi show!
It's hard to be sci-fi
It's been a brutal couple of years for fantasy and sci-fi fans. Netflix turned off Shadow and Bone, Welcome to Eden, 1899and Chaoswhile Disney + went out The Acolyteand Apple TV + barely gave the worship Time bandits a chance to shine, as well as to kill Constellation. Not alone What we do in the shadows, Superman & Lois, Andor, Arkan, The Boysand Umbrella Academy all ending now or next season. It is becoming a real issue that people aren't just watching new streaming shows since the chance of cancellation is so high, it's not worth the emotional investment.
So it's a real treat to learn that Apple has updated Silonot just for a third season but for a fourth as well, with the intention that the show will end at that point. After all, by then he will have run out of books and short stories to adapt.
In Apple's press release, the company quotes series creator Graham Yost as explaining, “With the final two chapters of Silowe can't wait to bring fans of the show a thrilling conclusion to the many mysteries and unanswered questions that lie within the walls of these silos.” It's another huge relief, as like this is not a Lost or a From– not getting answers here, when they are visibly available to those who know, would be a distraction. (Or you could read the books, I guess.)
Ferguson, who not only does so much of the show's heavy lifting through his incredible performance, is also an executive producer on the show. She said, in a rather unfortunate press release, “I've always felt passionate about telling the whole story in Hugh Howey's books, so I couldn't be more pleased that audiences around the world have enthusiastically embraced the show. I can't wait to dive into these exciting final two seasons that will wrap up this dystopian story.
If you have access to the Apple TV+ catacombs, definitely give it a go Silo watch It's worth noting that as of last month, Apple's content can now be accessed through Amazon Prime in the US and UK, making it a much more arcane streamer to find.
