Keely Hodgkinson won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024 award with runner-up Luke Littler claiming the Young SPOTY award.

Hodgkinson completed her ascent to athletics superstardom by winning 800m gold for Great Britain at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Littler, who started last year's World Darts Championship as a 16-year-old, was beaten in the final at Alexandra Palace but his success had a dramatic impact on the popularity of the sport.

Joe Root, who became England's leading Test run scorer in October, finished third. Sarah Storey, Alex Yee and Jude Bellingham were the finalists for the public vote.

What a year it has been for Luke Littler, from his breakthrough at the World Championships as a 17-year-old to winning the Premier League title. Let's take a look at his amazing 2024.

Hodgkinson burst onto the world scene at the age of 19 by winning the 800m silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Few outside the world of British athletics had heard of her at the time, but those who did knew she was destined to be famous.

She won two silver medals at the World Championships before finally delivering on a golden evening at the beginning of August in Paris.

Hodgkinson's success makes it the first four years in a row that a woman has won the award, following Mary Earps in 2023, Beth Mead in 2022 and Emma Raducanu in 2021.

Littler has had an exciting year in 2024, picking up 10 titles including his first major at the Grand Slam of Darts, a feat previously not completed by Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright.

Littler's meteoric rise has seen him become the face of the sport, with the likes of David Beckham sending him good luck messages as he goes from world youth champion to the center of the professional game.
