Housebuilders have been among the worst performers since the election on inflation and high rate fears. With a number like this, I don't think today will be any better, although the numbers of single families here are more promising than the headline suggests.

- Multifamily starts fell 24.1% to 264,000
On the permissions side:
- Single-family permits increased 0.1% to 972,000
- Multifamily (5+ units) permits increased 22.1% to 481,000
