2 men, 2 teenagers arrested after robbing jewelry store in Richmond Hill, police say

Two men and two teenage boys have been charged after a robbery at a jewelry store in Richmond Hill Tuesday afternoon left an employee injured.

In a news release Wednesday, York Regional Police said three men used a hammer to break glass cases and steal jewelry at the store near Yonge Street and Lavendale Road before fleeing in a vehicle driven by a fourth suspect.

Police said that an employee of the store was beaten up during the robbery.

Officers responded to a robbery just after 3:30 p.m

Police said they discovered the alleged getaway vehicle, a silver sport utility car, while using their helicopter to drive into Toronto, before parking it at an apartment complex near Highway 27 and Finch Avenue.

The suspects then fled into a wooded area but were apprehended a short time later, police said.

A 24-year-old man from Brampton, a 20-year-old man from Burlington, a 16-year-old man from Toronto and a 16-year-old boy from Mississauga were arrested.

All four were charged with armed robbery, disguise with intent and possession of proceeds of crime. A man and two juveniles were also charged with failing to comply with a release order.

The Greater Toronto Area has seen a series of similar robberies this month, including Monday at a jewelry store in Toronto's Fairview Mall. Police are looking for 6 people suspected to be involved in the incident.
