In the 7th game of the Big Bash League 2024-25at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, the Hobart Hurricanes took on the Perth Scorsesewith the fans witnessing a sensational one-handed catch from the Hobart wicketkeeper, Ben McDiarmid. The amazing catch came off the bowling Riley Meredithdismissing the Perth opener, Get Allenin a surprising turn of events.

The match got off to a blazing start from Perth Scorchers opener Allen who opened the innings with a boundary off the first ball. Meredith bowled a back-of-length delivery that drifted away outside off, and Allen expertly hit it to the left of mid-on, sending the ball racing to the boundary. The crowd went wild as Allen got off to a strong start, but the next delivery turned the tide in Hobart's favour.
Meredith's next ball to Allen was a length delivery that came in after he stepped in, catching the inside edge of Allen's bat. The ball rolled away from his body, and in a split second, McDermott, sitting behind the stumps, made a brilliant dive to his left to take a one-handed catch. Allen was dismissed for 4 runs off just 2 balls.

Great performance by Riley Meredith with the ball
Meredith was the outstanding performer for the Hobart Hurricanes in the first innings. The right-arm fast bowler's remarkable spell of 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs was instrumental in controlling the Scorchers batting. After Allen's early wicket, Meredith dismissed two more key players from Perth. First, he got rid of it Cooper Connollywho was caught behind by McDermott, then dismissed the Perth captain, Ashton Turnerin an important break. Meredith's accuracy and ability to strike at crucial times ensured that the Scorchers could not build any significant partnerships. His impressive performance didn't stop there, Meredith also displayed brilliant fielding, executing a direct hit to run out the wicketkeeper batsman Josh Inglisfurther tightening Hobart's grip on the game.
