Robeisy Ramirez: Expect war in Rafael Espinoza's rematch - after falling down I always get back

A season of exciting replays begins Sky Sports this weekend with a doubleheader of Rafael Espinoza vs. Robeisy Ramirez and Emanuel Navarrete vs. Oscar Valdez.

Later this month Tyson Fury will fight Oleksandr Usyk for the second time for the unified world heavyweight championship.

Ramirez will be in the first of those world rematches when he boxes Mexico's Rafael Espinoza for the Cuban's former WBO featherweight world title.

A year ago Espinoza upset Ramirez in one of the best fights of 2023, and the Cuban believes the contest will be just as intense the second time around.

“You can expect a war,” Ramirez said Sky Sports. “We all know how Mexican fighters are. They don't give up.

“The truth is that it wasn't the best version of me and I was able to give a good show so the second fight will be better.

This isn't the first time Ramirez has had to rally after a devastating loss. The two-time Olympic gold medalist lost his professional debut to Adan Gonzales, in a major upset, but had his revenge when he won their rematch a year later.

He wants to repeat that form this weekend.

“I try not to go in there angry towards the fight. I go in there focused on my job. I always celebrating myself for getting up after falling down,” he said. “I will be a hero again.

“I will go back to where I should be.”

In the first fight Ramirez dropped Espinoza in the fifth round, only to knock himself out in the final round as Espinoza scored a majority decision.

“I recognize that he came to win. But I didn't see myself losing. In the last round he didn't catch a punch that put me in a bad position. I went down, if you see the next play, I passed out from exhaustion,” Ramirez said.

“I didn't see myself as the loser.”

Victory would set him up for exciting fights with other champions, such as Nick Ball or Angelo Leo, in 2025.

“There's no problem in fighting any of them. That's one of the things I've always had in mind in my career and one of the things I have to do in my career,” he said. .

“Now I need to get my title back and I will be ready to unify against any of the champions out there.”
