On the heels of Rare's success with Sea of Thievesthe British studio announced their next project in November 2019. It's the name of the game Foreverand the first reveal trailer was more than anything, showing a world full of pictures of wild animals and some magic.
The 2019 release was rarely followed with another trailer in 2020which was about as cryptic, and didn't provide any hard details or a release date. Since then, we've seen very little from Everwild. In fact, we would go years without her name being mentioned at all – not even a reminder that he is alive.

The 2021 reports suggested that the project was restarted internally, with a rare shot for a 2024 release. We're just a few days away from the end of 2024, of course, and we're still not playing Everwild.
So what's going on? Well, we don't have an answer to that question, either. The good news, however, is that at least Rare has something to share with fans, which you can take as a reminder that it continues to work on the mysterious game. Over on Twitter, Rare shared a holiday greeting card with a new image from the game. In the accompanying post, the developer admitted that it is just an image, and wished everyone a happy holiday.
“Hope you're closing the year out in style and, as it's the day of good gifts and better food, here's our offer – a delicious png you'll love!” he is reading. “Right, we're going to eat a hypothetical Patagotitan weight in sweets. 'Till 2025!”

We could only see this as early tension for something to do with Everwild that takes place in 2025. The game might finally be released, but 2025 might just as easily be the year the game will be published properly, with a release date in 2026 or beyond.
Nevertheless, you can see from the responses that the tweet certainly made many people happy to mention Everwild again, even if it is at the tail end of 2024 with, frankly, not much content.
