UMich expected December consumer sentiment 74.0 vs 73.0

  • Before was 71.8
  • Current position 77.7 vs previous 63.9
  • Expected 71.6 vs 76.9 before
  • 1-year inflation 2.9% versus 2.6% previously
  • 5-year inflation 3.1% vs 3.2% previously

This report is not about consumer spending, it is about politics. Act accordingly:

  • Republican sentiment rose to 81.6 from 53.6 in October
  • Democrats fell to 70.9 from 91.4 in October

This is not a serious study.

I suspect the jump in one-year inflation expectations is about fears of tariffs. Shame on the Deer if they read anything in this study.
