Sonic the hedgehog 3 hit theaters late last month and has already grossed over $300 million worldwide, pushing the movie series based on Sega's popular video games past the billion mark and making it one of Paramount's biggest ongoing franchises.
On January 5, Paramount Pictures issued a press release confirming that the function is alive Sonic the Hedgehog the film franchise has now made over $1 billion at the box office. That means it is made more than Halloween, paranormal activity, and Quiet place.
For Paramount, Sonic has become a very important franchise at a time when the studio has struggled to churn out big blockbusters from past winners such as Transformers and Star Trek. So it's not surprising like that Sonic surpassing the 1-billion-dollar mark, Paramount is already working on a sequel. The next movie is rumored to arrive in 2027.

It feels like a lifetime back when the first one was Sonic the Hedgehog movie teaser hit the web and we all got to see it that original, ugly CG Sonic was so terrible, fans pushed back hard enough to force Paramount and Sega to change the character's appearance to something less terrible. That first film ended up grossing $319 million at the box office.
In 2022, Sonic 2 hit theaters, getting rave reviews and grossing over $400 million. It was Hills another TV show in early 2024but no one talks about it. Then finally, in December, Paramount released it Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is one of the highest grossing video game movies in history and has already made more money than the first movie in just two weeks. Perfect for a hedgehog that runs very fast.
