Upcoming James Mangold directed Star wars flick Dawn of the Jedi is set incredibly far in the past, and it's all about avoiding being bogged down by lore.
When you're working on something like Star Wars, these days you're just going to be held back because everything has to fit in with everything else. Why would The Mandalorian grow so much rather than the fun adventure of the week romp that it started as the opposite? There must always be a connection to something. All entries into the world of Star Wars have been TV shows since The Rise of Skywalker, however, but there are some films in the works, namely director Logan's Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi , the director of Logan, a prequel film set 25,000 years in the past about, well, you know, the beginning of the Jedi. And why is it so long in the past? The director does not want to be “encumbered” by the lore of the entire series.

Honestly, I can't blame him. The director has expressed that before he doesn't like cinematic universesdespite entering two of them in the world of Star Wars and the DCU with Swamp Thing, but with an angle like this he can ignore a lot of the baggage that comes from working in a universe therefore. Even still, I'm sure Disney will figure out how to insert some kind of nonsense somewhere to sell some toys.
