The man suspected of killing two people at a mechanical engineering company in southwestern Germany had a license for the weapon used in the shooting, police said Wednesday.
The suspect, a 52-year-old German national who was an employee of the company, was a member of a shooting club.
One person remains in critical condition after the attack in the town of Bad Friedrichshall, about 100 kilometers south of Frankfurt, on Tuesday.
Two of the company's employees were killed after a masked person entered the company's building in the early afternoon and then shot the men.
A third employee, a 52-year-old man, was seriously injured in the shooting and remains in serious condition, according to police.
The suspect was arrested in the town of Seckach after an hour of hunting. His motive is unclear, said a spokesman for the local public prosecutor's office.
He has since been arrested. He is charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Twenty-five workers were on site at the time of the crime, police said Wednesday. They were taken out of the building and questioned by officers.
A homicide team has taken over the investigation with forensic investigators at the scene on Wednesday.
About 20,000 people live in Bad Friedrichshall, which is located in the wealthy state of Baden-Württemberg.
The mayor of Bad Friedrichshall Timo Frey told dpa that he was shocked by the news.
He said the family company, which makes gears, is well known in the area and is a major employer with around 400 employees.
Shooting incidents are unusual in the European Union's most populous country.
