2025 will be filled with big new entries in several film franchises after a slightly quieter 2024, and Jurassic World: Rebirth near the top of this year's 'blockbusters' lists even though Dominion 2022 was a T-Rex-sized disappointment. Perhaps one of his secret weapons is returning from Jurassic Park and the writer of The Lost World David Koppand he has more to tell about his approach to the seventh installment.
While director Gareth Edwards (of Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame) has been talking about a bit of the process of shooting on location and introducing a new cast of characters, it's understandable that Koepp is much more excited about the opportunity (and the challenges) ahead. ) came by returning to a world he helped assemble back in the 1990s. If it's honest, Rebirth seems like a return to the basics, but one that doesn't give up on moving forward that the three previous Jurassic World films did.

“Writing those first two films were some of the best experiences of my career so far. The combination of great adventure and real science is right up my alley. And it was fun to be able to decide on a new tone, because every three movies it seems like a good time to change tone and characters in a franchise,” he recently told TheWrap. Like 'em or hate 'em, the three Jurassic World films have successfully reinvigorated the franchise across theaters, television and video gameseach grossing over $1 billion worldwide at the box office, so another entry would arrive sooner rather than later.
After Colin Trevorrow wrapped up this three-film story and helped get the show animated Cretaceous camp Off the ground, the long-running franchise began quietly searching for new DNA under the guidance of original filmmaker (now producer) Steven Spielberg, who turned to Koepp to usher in a new era. it is both new and a continuation of the ideas introduced. by Trevorrow and colleagues.
Koepp says he quickly established “nine commandments” (like the ones Chuck Jones did for the Road Runner shorts) to keep things sane and clear moving forward. Chief among them was that “the events of the previous six films cannot be denied or contradicted,” which should put some fan theories to rest.
In fact, we already know that the story begins a few years after the events of Dominion, with dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, now another part of modern nature, gradually returning to the tropical zones of the globe after failing in different climates. The action follows a group of scientists and hired muscles who are trying to take samples from several animals in a remote island; they could help develop wonderful medicines and cures for mankind. But, you know, maybe capitalism will screw things up. That and too many hungry diners.
Koepp also insists that the team was chasing “the spirit of the first film, and that's the tone we wanted to get closer to… It felt low-pressure, even though Universal could be encouraged to hear it. Hopefully that also means the film, which will remain 100% a family adventure, will have some of the extra “bite” that was absent from the bloodless sixth installment.
Jurassic World: Rebirth opens on July 2, 2025. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali lead the cast. The first trailer is expected to drop at the Super Bowl next month or sooner if we're lucky.
