The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued recalls in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan and other possible provinces due to possible salmonella contamination in certain brands of eggs.
The agency said the recalls include Compliments, Foremost, Golden Valley Eggs, IGA, No Name and Western Family Eggs.
Expiry dates for returned eggs are February 16, February 22 and March 1.
Consumers are advised not to consume, use, serve or distribute the recall notice and to throw away the eggs or contact the retailer that sold them.
The agency says food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell bad but can still make people sick.
For healthy people, short-term salmonella symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, while the infection can be more serious or fatal for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
