Kirkland & Ellis and Demarest Advogados top the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) rankings for legal advisors in South & Central America for 2024, in terms of deal value and size, respectively, according to the latest league table from GlobalData, data and analytics. firm
A survey of GlobalData's Deals Database found Kirkland & Ellis leading the value charts with advice on five deals worth $8.2bn.
Debevoise & Plimpton was second in the value category, advising on three deals of similar value. Herbert Smith Freehills came in third, advising on one deal worth $8.2bn.
Clifford Chance took fourth place by value, with advisory on deals amounting to $6.7bn, while McCarthy Tetrault reported $6.1bn in advisory deals.
GlobalData principal analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “Demarest Advogados was in the top position by volume in 2024, even though there was a drop in the total number of deals it advised. In fact, his ranking by volume improved from third place in 2023.
“At the same time, Kirkland & Ellis recorded a 42.6% jump in the total value of the deals it advised in 2024 compared to 2023. Its ranking by value improved from fifth position in 2023 to the top position in in 2024. In addition to leading in value, Kirkland & Ellis held the fifth position by volume in 2024.
Demarest Advogados led by volume, having advised on seven deals during the year.
Posse Herrera & Ruiz Abogados also advised on seven deals, but ranked second in volume, behind Demarest Advogados in total deal value.
Baker McKenzie and Pinheiro Neto Advogados advised on six deals, and Kirkland & Ellis advised on five deals.
