Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for Pickering, Oshawa and southern Durham, saying 10 to 20 centimeters of lake effect snow could fall in those areas on Thursday.
Lake-effect snow was expected to begin Wednesday night or Thursday morning and continue through Thursday afternoon, according to the Federal Weather Agency.
Environment Canada said heavy and blown snow could mean reduced visibility, and drivers should be prepared for changing road conditions.
“Weather conditions are very variable as snow falls; it is common to change from clear skies to heavy snow within a few kilometers. Visibility will suddenly drop to near zero in heavy snow and blowing snow,” the warning said.
The snowstorm will affect areas along the northern shores of Lake Ontario, then move south of the area by Thursday afternoon or evening, it adds.
