Jeremy Allen White of The Bear has joined the Star wars universe, as it is ready to appear in it The Mandalorian & Grogu…as the son of Jabba the Hutt.
You ever see some casting news and think “…what?” That's exactly what happened to me this morning when I saw that, as reported by DifferentJeremy Allen White, best known for his role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on The Bear, plays Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt, in The Mandalorian & Grogu. Right off the bat this just sounds like a really funny throw to me – you're telling me Disney going to spend a bunch of money to get someone like White, when you're just going to cover him with prosthetics, and he's going to talk a bunch of gibberish? Get that bag, white, but it's a surprising choice, although perhaps one that reflects the need for big names in every profession these days.

There is currently no known plot information about The Mandalorian & Grogu (yes, that's still what it's called), and as noted by Variety, White will be portraying Rotta the Hutt basically the first thing that even partially tells us what might happen. . Apparently the titular Mandalorian will get in trouble with Rotta somewhere along the line, but beyond that it's anyone's guess.
The Mandalorian & Grogu were first announced at the beginning of this yearwith White's casting as the second major addition this year. Back in August it was announced that the Iconic Sigourney Weaver had joined the film in an unpublished role, which is still unknown at the time of writing. The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently slated to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, a year and a half away, and will be the first new film in the franchise since 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker .We'll have to wait and see if a galaxy far, far away can still pull in an audience!
