Mitchell Starc booed by Kolkata Knight Riders fans on Day 1 of Adelaide Test


Australian left arm fast bowling Mitchell Starc cheered by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans during the first session of Day 1 of the pink ball Test against team India at the Adelaide Oval. Kolkata Knight Riders fans could be heard chanting, “Mitchell Starc loves IPL” in a video that has gone viral.

Starc was the pick of the bowlers for Australia in India's first innings in Adelaide on Friday 6 December. Fishing for a golden duck on the first ball of the Test. The fast bowler was only the second bowler in history to take a wicket off the first ball in a Test three times.

Mitchell Starc continued by dismissing KL Rahul for 37 runs, with Nathan McSweeney taking a stunner at gully. This was the third time in a row in the magazine series that Starc dismissed Rahul. Starc then got the big wicket of Virat Kohliwhich was caught by Steve Smith at second down.

While he was playing at the boundary, some Indian fans jeered at Starc. The fans teased him about his IPL career, especially his time with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Starc was at one time the highest paid player in IPL history when Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for Rs 23.75 crores. He played a role in leading KKR to their third IPL title. However, he was released by KKR ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, where he was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 10.75 crores.

Did not do much wrong in Perth – Mitchell Starc

During the innings, Mitchell Starc admitted that the opposition simply played better in Perth. He said the pitch was expected to give some help, but the team adjusted well after the first hour of bowling.

“Yeah, I don't know, I can't say much. The ball was coming out well in this game. I didn't do much wrong in Perth. They just played better .The ball was moving. We just wanted some momentum.

“As a bowling unit, we have to be patient. There are rough patches. You have to get through them. Sometimes, he doesn't move and does a lot. Sometimes, he does too much in a short period of time. We did a ' most of the situations.”

“It certainly didn't help the engine; it got a little rough at the end. It goes through some weird bits, it doesn't do much, and then it goes away. On the first day, you expect a little make a little grass. Maybe with the forecast we have, it will dry out a little later, but apart from the first time when we were a little wide, we were good,” concluded e.
