Pocket Pokémon TCG is getting a new Mew-themed booster set

Pokemon TCG pocket looks like it's going well for The Pokémon Company. With rumours that the game has earned more than $200 million in its first month, it has now been officially announced that the mobile app has been downloaded more than 60 million times since its launch on 30 October. To go along with this news, the Pocket Devs have revealed a rather big surprise: a new special set of Mew themed packs called Mythical Island, will arrive in the game on December 17th.

A new set was widely expected to replace (rather than replace, with the “Select Expansion” page that the game didn't need) the launch set, Genetic Apex, at the end of January, as this would continue the three-month cycle. of the real world version of the TCG. But I don't think anyone expected a new “Themed Booster Pack” set before the end of the year. That's the designation given to Mythical Island, which – and I'm speculating a bit here with questionable information – appears to be a smaller “special set” (it's coded “A1a”, to Genetic Apex's “A1”), with only a Mew art kit , will throw some serious spanners into the current meta.

Pocket has so far featured only Genetic Apex, the unfortunately named set (everyone else sees it as the codename for Wolfenstein– project enemy style, right?) that has featured Pikachu, Charizard and Mewtwo. When you collect the whole set you would take more than a year without paying incredible amounts of money, it's been around long enough now that most people have the cards build the decks above the meta. Of course, if you participate in the A fun new logo eventyou will inevitably face the Mewtwo, Charizard, Blastoise or Pikachu deck, almost unchanged. So what the game really needs is a bunch of new cards thrown in to blow it all up.

So hooray for news about the Mythical Island in less than a week. The trailer flashes a bunch of new cards, including of course Mew ex, who has a single 20 energy damage attack, but then a very similar ability to Ditto for three energy (and an energy of any type, making this a strong addition to any deck) called Genome Hacking. This allows you to “choose 1 of your opponent's Active Pokémon's attacks and use it as this attack.”

However, I think the real game changer is going to be Aerodactyl ex which has the ability to prevent your opponent from changing their Active Pokémon. With the amount of meta based on a move like that, it should shake things up! It is better to get used to growing on the bench.

Also previewed is Vaporeon's special art with a new ability to transfer water energy between cards, and gorgeous special art for Dedenne and Marshadow.

There are also new trainers, including Blue, which reduces all incoming damage for a turn by 10 points, and Leaf, which really messes everything up by reducing its retreat costs your Active Pokémon by being two. X Speed, step to one side.

It's hard to tell if the set is really small, and just the two previous cards and the two new trainers, or if the trailer is being very selective in what it shows – honestly -scary, they are Pocket cards don't have the traditional numbers to show you set size. Still, at least I know my contact Yuka Morii She'll upgrade with at least one more card, in addition to her gorgeous Exeggcute that debuted Sun & Moonand Forbidden Light set in 2018.

I can't wait to see how this makes everyone change tactics come December 17th.
