Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has called for more to be done to prevent online abuse after a “vicious, racist and threatening” message he received following Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Juventus revealed.
Walker played the whole in Turin but they could not help Pep Guardiola's side to avoid their seventh defeat in 10 games.
England international Walker posted a screenshot of a message he received on Instagram from an anonymous user to his social media accounts on Thursday, which read: “Bro you can **** around and die stupid ass** ***.”
“No one should be subjected to the kind of abuse, racism and threats I received online from last night's game,” Walker wrote on his X and Instagram accounts.
“Instagram and the authorities need to stop this from happening for all the victims of this abuse. It will never be accepted.
“To our fans, we will continue to work as a team to do better, improve and turn the corner together.”
City quickly condemned the racist attack. A club statement read: “Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse that Kyle Walker received online after last night's game.
“We refuse to tolerate discrimination of any kind, whether in stadiums or online.
“We offer our full support to Kyle following the disgraceful treatment he has received.”
