New Zealand manufacturing PMI falls deeper into contraction – November 45.5 (45.8 prior)

BNZ – BusinessNZ Manufacturing Performance Index (PMI) for November 2024 fell further, to 45.5

  • October was 45.8

Another ugly statement.

BusinessNZ Director, Catherine Beard Advocacy:

  • Any momentum built up over July-September has now returned to being a backdrop to the sector
  • Negative comments in October showed similar patterns to previous months, focusing on the lack of orders and the cost of living.

BNZ chief economist Doug Steel:

  • The core message of the manufacturing sector remains under severe pressure. Recent industry surveys report that manufacturers are feeling more confident about the outlook, but there is little evidence of a general change in activity so far
