Cheltenham tips: Fugitif bid to retain December Gold Cup crown | Racing News

The Week Winners team is back with an eye ahead to a busy weekend of action at Prestbury Park.

In the first part of the show, the team discuss their aspirations for Saturday's famous race – the Nyetimber December Gold Cup Handicap Chase.

Madora and Stage Star sit near the top of the market, with last year's winner Fugitif also in the mix alongside the likes of Ga Law, Grandeur d'Ame and Il Ridoto.

Kate Tracey's guest…

“I'm on his side Ga Lagh. I'm pretty sure I sided with him last time out when he ran second to Il Ridoto. Ga Law is such a fantastic horse and he just ends the trend as the winning horses Paddy Power have backed in December don't have a good track record – usually ' it is the horses behind the winners that come to light.

“The only transfer box he hasn't ticked is in ratings, because he needs to win this with a very high mark (156). there have been two high profile anomalies so hopefully it will be another one of those.

At Declan Rix at The Races…

“I'm together The Ridoto. Hopefully he can bounce back with the top two hurdles at Cheltenham (after winning ___). It's going to be tougher for him, he's 8lb higher in the ratings and will carry an extra 13lb in terms of bodyweight. He won by the last day – the race was over after three outs and he went all the way up!

I thought it was great training from Paul Nicholls to get him to win the Paddy Power and I hope he can go on again in a slightly better race. Let's go, Il Ridoto!

BetVictor's Sam Boswell…

Refugee he was an eye-catcher in the paddock before Paddy Power, he seems to have been taken off – he's a big horse and a good type. My only concern would be this dry ground, I wouldn't mind a shower or two hitting Cheltenham!

“His record second time out is very strong and I think he should be very popular. Sean Bowen is very optimistic about taking the tour, there is a lot which you will like but I would like the ground to be a little softer if it goes shorter.”
