A controversial Decision Review System (DRS) call by the third umpire Richard Kettleborough in the second day of the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide ignited widespread criticism from fans, commentators, and Team India. The incident happened late in the first session when an Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin he seemed to catch the Australian batter Marsh Mitchell lbw.
The third umpire calls inconclusive evidence
Ashwin was confident in his claim, convincing the captain Rohit Sharma review the umpire's decision on the field not to be out. Initial replays showed Marsh trying to defend the delivery as it drifted down the track, with the ball apparently hitting the pad before an inside edge was apparent. However, the third umpire called inconclusive evidence based on the Snicko and quickly upheld the call on the field without proceeding to find the ball.
Replays tell a different story
Later replays, including an extended in, suggested the ball had indeed hit Marsh's pad first. This revelation left commentators wondering why the third umpire had not used ball tracking technology to determine the path and likelihood of the ball hitting the stumps.
The sudden decision-making process drew attention from fans and cricket experts alike, who questioned the lack of analysis at such a critical time. The Indian camp seemed unhappy, and social media exploded with comments criticizing the third umpire's judgement.

Cricket fans expressed their frustration on various platforms, calling the decision “unprofessional” and “a mockery of DRS.” Some raised the inconsistency in the use of DRS protocols, calling for a review of the system to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Here's how fans reacted:
I have seen some strange events in cricket but Marsh's dismissal was about as strange as any!

First it was Marsh. An Indian batsman would not survive that review from the third umpire.

Mitchell Marsh was lbw on Ashwin's ball, but the umpire didn't give him out, the ball hit the Pad first & Then the bat hit 3rd by not knowing what cricket technology is when you don't make the right decision?#AUSWIN #TeamIndia #Pushpa2TheRule pic.twitter.com/Qvwzm3ETdv

Marsh was not out in the end due to Umpire's call on victory.
But this terrible use of technology by broadcaster Fox & rushing decisions by the 3rd umpire for DRS in 2 back to back tests, raises serious suspicions.

In the first match KL Rahul was given, and today Mitchell Marsh was not given on the same basis. 3rd Umpire being a clown. Australian hypocrisy 🤡🤡#INDvsAUS #AUSWIN pic.twitter.com/8PciC7QZpm

Aus seems to be playing with the 12th man in the form of a 3rd Umpire.
Mitch Marsh was definitely out, the 3rd Umpire decided in 10 seconds that there was no conclusive evidence, but in the next picture we all see Pad 1st.

That's as clear as it gets, call Mitch Marsh first. Even David Warner and Harsha Bhogle agree. The third umpire should have reviewed it from other angles, not just the side view.

Third level umpiring by the 3rd Umpire. He didn't follow the protocol, he didn't go for ball tracking. The video replay team did not provide the definitive video. They did but after a decision Marsh preferred. pic.twitter.com/cooKdv3rV9

Ravi Ashwin to Mitchell Marsh. .
– The ball clearly hits the pad first but the 3rd Umpire says there is no conclusive evidence to overturn the field umpire's decision..!!😡

Poor decision by the 3rd umpire on Marsh. I thought he hit the pad first. Fortunately, the result was an umpire's call and, therefore, he would not have been out at all. #AUSWIN

According to the 3rd umpire, there was no convincing evidence to rule Marsh out 🤔
Show the ball where it hits first, it's pads first 😡
