Paul has made it his mission to expose illegal whaling activities, even when such activities are disguised as scientific research. Recently, he spent almost five months in custody in Greenland, held by the Danish authorities at the request of Japan. Japan is seeking more, accusing him of a 14-year-old crime involving his crew launching crude butter bombs at the crew of a whaling research vessel. Earlier this week, Paul was released without extradition, allowing him to return to France and reunite with his family.
