LOMA, Colo. (KREX) – The weather, for a fielder like Brady Pearson, is everything; it can make or break their livelihood.
Now, he and other rangers across the country are finally getting out of this season's toughest challenge – an arctic blast.

What made this frost so dangerous was the timing, which coincided very well with his calving season.
At last report, he had 11 new children. Now, he has 14.
He tells WesternSlopeNow, “everything was great, no problems,” until Wednesday morning, when the temperature dropped to 2 degrees.
“I saw some cows arguing about a calf, so I went over there, well there's a new calf on the ground,” he recalls. “The mother who had the calf this morning was trying to claim the calf born yesterday.”
He tells me the calf's ears were frozen that morning, so Pearson took the new baby to his truck and laid him on the floorboard, cranking the heater to warm him.
He then fed him and called him an “orphan no more” in hopes that he would help reunite the youth and his mother.
Although the baby is definitely not out of the woods yet, thanks to Pearson, hope is getting stronger.
He predicts within the next week; he should have been left with about 25 children.
