A man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a New Year's Eve shooting in Oshawa


Durham police have charged a 44-year-old man with second-degree murder after opening fire at an Oshawa apartment on New Year's Eve.

Police at 1040 Cedar St. When they arrived after receiving a report of an armed man around 2 a.m., they found a man shot inside the building.

The victim, Dennis Binda, 29, of Oshawa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news release Thursday, police said the suspect, also from Oshawa, was arrested in Whitby on Wednesday. He was held pending a bail hearing.

The arrested accused was issued an arrest warrant by the police two days ago.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham Police or leave an anonymous tip to help stop the crime. Tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward, police said.
