A woman who died Sunday after being pulled from a vehicle in Lake Ontario in Ashbridge Bay is being remembered as a warm, caring person and hard-working colleague.
According to a GoFundMe page in her memory started by Christian Paksu, 25-year-old Agnesa Šukuli moved to Canada from Albania with her sister in November 2021.
“Agnesa was a kind and beautiful soul who touched the hearts of everyone she met,” the GoFundMe page reads. “She was a loving daughter, caring sister and friend who made everyone feel special.”
Donations will go toward bringing her family back to Albania, the page said. So far, the GoFundMe has raised more than $68,000.
A 23-year-old Oakville man has been charged with death by dangerous operation, Toronto police said Tuesday.
Both accused and Shukuli were in the vehicle when it entered Ashbridge Bay. When he got out of the car, the police officer had to pull him out.
He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
'She made your day,' says a colleague
Shukuli worked at Serrano Bakery, a popular spot in Toronto's East York. The bakery released a statement on Facebook on Wednesday, writing that he was a “beloved member” of their team.
“Agnes Shukuli was not only a dedicated colleague, but also a dear friend who brought warmth, kindness and joy to all she met,” the statement said.
Evangelos Dzanos worked with Shukulli at Serrano Bakery. He said Shukulli was “always with a smile”.
“She was making your day,” he said.
He said Shukuli was a hardworking colleague who made the bakery a better place for everyone.
Dajanos had known him for about eight months, but others at the bakery had known him for several years, he said.
“(When) you've known someone for years and all of a sudden she's gone, a part of you is gone,” he said. “We need time to process everything.”
