Apple TV+ is free this weekend, with tons of great shows

Apple TV+ is a weird ol' streaming service, spending chunks of Apple's unlimited cash on really expensive celebrity TV and movies, then hiding it all as a b ' better he could. In the last few months, it has occurred to the company that it might be good if people could see the stuff they are doing, adding the service as an option on Amazon Prime, and now it offers a completely free weekend to lure you in. It's just, there's also a lot of confusion about when it starts.

It doesn't seem to be set up so you have to cancel once the free weekend is over on January 5th, which is good. I say reported, because right now we can't get him to offer anything other than the standard seven-day free trial, which doing ask you to turn it off. It's worth noting that too Apple's own press release for the offerit says it runs january 3rd to 5th, but the embedded video says it's january 4th to 5th. We reached out to Apple for some clarification, and it didn't clear things up much. It's expected to start sometime this evening in ET zones, but possibly earlier in PT, and then later, “the timing just depends on the terrain.”

if you can get it working, there is a wealth of excellent material to watch on the streamer, truly some of the best television of the last few years. It's my personal favorite Siloan adaptation of the Wool novels set in a post-apocalyptic underground bunker. Then yes For all of Humanityanother amazing timeline historical drama set in a version of the world where Russia defeated America to land on the moon, and the space race that ensued. Both are entertaining dramas.

Then yes break upBen Stiller and Adam Scott's stunning twist on the all-is-not-right workplace comedy, Bill “Screws“Lawrence's Comedy Ted Lasso after an American coach of the British football team, and of course Bill Lawrence's comedy-drama-cum-murder mystery Bad monkeywith Vince Vaughn finally finding a platform where he can shine.

There's a ton of other sci-fi in there, too Attack, Dark Matter, Base, Constellationand the Godzilla a spin-off show Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters. Other high-quality performances include Slow Horses by Gary Oldman, Bad Sisters by the wonderful Sharon Horgan, and Denial starring Cate Blanchett.

A hurt the above shows were cancelled, so it's cruel of the world to spend hundreds of millions on TV shows that will never have a chance to find an audience, but none as brutal as Taika Waititi's reprise of Terry Gilliam. Time bandits. But, you know, if you're only planning to blitz the archive for one weekend, you might as well watch what looks like fun.

Um, Apple has made some movies too.

Is there a catch? Well, definitely. You need to sign up for an Apple ID to do this, which is to say, this is a huge database owned by the megacorp, looking at large numbers of email addresses. gather to bombard them with more nags. But of course that is what it is, and we are all able to use no subscription, or a temporary email address.

Whether it starts on Friday or Saturday (we'll update accordingly), it looks like a pretty decent deal. if you want one display to focus on, select Silo. And break up. And For all of Humanity.

Updated: 01/03/2025, 10:32 am ET: We added some vague details about when the offer will start in the US based on Apple's response to our questions.
