Caroline Dubois was promoted to full WBC lightweight world champion after Katie Taylor vacated the belt.
Dubois became the interim champion with a unanimous points victory over Maira Moneo in August and has since challenged Taylor for the title.
But the Irish legend's decision to walk away means Dubois retains the belt, and she will make her first defense on January 11 – her 24th birthday – against a challenger Canadian Jessica Camara's world title in Sheffield, live on. Sky Sports.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman presented the belt to Dubois at the governing body's annual conference in Hamburg on Wednesday.
“It's a great honor to be promoted to full WBC world champion and to be presented with the belt by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman,” said Dubois.
“It's always been my dream to become a world champion, and this is just the beginning of my journey. I'm looking forward to defending my WBC world title on January 11 in Sheffield.”
Since turning professional after competing at the Tokyo Olympics, Dubois has amassed a 10-0 professional record with five victories.
The Londoner, who is the sister of IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, has barely been troubled so far in the professional ranks but former opponent Camara could world title to give one of her toughest tests yet.
Dubois' promoter Ben Shalom said: “We would like to thank WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman and the board of governors for renewing Caroline.
“The WBC lightweight title is active again and in Caroline we have a WBC champion who can reign for many years to come.
“We are only just beginning to see her true potential. We believe Caroline will be the face of women's boxing in the future.”
The heavyweight rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will be live on Saturday December 21 on Sky Sports Box Office. Book now!
