Max Verstappen served his FIA penalty for swearing at the Singapore Grand Prix in October – before he was officially crowned F1 world champion for the fourth year in a row.
The Dutchman used the expletive at a press conference in Singapore when describing his Red Bull's performance at the previous grand prix in Azerbaijan a week earlier.
Verstappen ordered to “carry out some public interest work” and that came in Rwanda on Friday as he attended a motor sports development program with young people.
Later, the 27-year-old was recognized at the FIA award gala, he was presented with his trophy by FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem together with Rwandan president Paul Kagame.
Verstappen won nine grand prix over the 2024 season and claimed 437 points as he became one of only six drivers to win four or more titles since the championship began in 1950.
He said: “It's amazing, four titles is definitely unbelievable. Of course I also hope it doesn't stop here. I hope we can be successful for a longer time.
“This year the competition is very close, but then again in 2026 a lot is going to change.
Verstappen clinched the title with two rounds remaining at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, after building an unassailable advantage over McLaren's Lando Norris.
Norris, who helped McLaren to their first Constructors' Championship since 1998, collected his trophy for finishing second, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc took home his third.
