In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Catholic priest and fascist collaborator Father Vincent gets on your radar almost as soon as you land in Vatican City. It may be a while before you meet him face to face, but before then, you might get a chance to help yourself to some of his most intimate secrets. Here's how to solve the “Snake in the Garden” mystery in the Great Circle.
Like many of the other Mystery missions, “Snake in the Garden” is kind of hidden in plain sight. In practice, you might run across Vincent's office in the Vatican when you're making your way back to the building after your first meeting with Gina. His name isn't on his office in a prominent place, though, so you might as well just steal all of Vincent's snacks and go about your day.
Slipping is a noble goal in itself – fascists don't deserve complex carbs – but there's another secret to discover if you pick up the Notebook from Vincent's desk. There is something hidden in the office, behind a classic puzzle containing Vincent's 4 favorite books on medieval Latin.
If you turn the note over while reading it, you will discover a second set of notes that show which of the 4 books it is. This is simple, but it is also one of the only notes in Vatican City that has something written on the back. If you've gotten out of the habit of moving over every note by now, you might think there's another clue somewhere else and miss this one. .
The Notebook reveals that the puzzle is solved by pulling out the books in alphabetical order: Francorum, Logicae, QDV, Philosophae. There are no bibles on the spines of the books, but the title of each book shows an identifying sigil next to it on the note: a crown, a triangle, a 7-pointed star, and what looks like a ship's wheel. The last two seeds are the most difficult, because they are not particularly drawn compared to the spines of the books.
When facing the bookshop, draw the books in the following order:
Or, from left to right, draw out the second, fourth, first, and third. You'll know you've got the right answer when a secret compartment full of money opens up on the right side of the shelf.
Your rewards for completing “Snake in the Garden” include two more Field Notes for you to collect; 120 lira; and 100 Adventure Points, which are used to gain new skills.
