Despite the truce in the Gaza Strip, several violent encounters have occurred involving armed or disguised Palestinians, an Israeli military spokesman said late Wednesday.
In one such incident, a man was killed, with the army identifying him as a fighter for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
In other cases, soldiers fired warning shots to keep suspects at bay, the spokesman said.
The army said it is determined to abide by the ceasefire agreements while taking all necessary measures to protect its soldiers from possible threats. He has urged Palestinians to stay away from military personnel.
According to the agreed terms, Israeli soldiers withdrew their vehicles from Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday. The military released images showing a convoy of tanks leaving the area next to the border fence.
