Israel's military says it hit Hezbollah rocket launchers in Lebanon

Israel's military said Thursday it hit Hezbollah medium-range rocket launchers at a military site belonging to the anti-Iranian Hezbollah movement in southern Lebanon.

The army said Hezbollah rocket launchers near a military site in the Nabatieh region, in southern Lebanon, were also hit.

The Israeli army said that, as part of an understanding between Israel and Lebanon, a request was sent to the Lebanese Armed Forces before the strike to neutralize the launchers that posed a threat to Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers.

“The surgeons were only struck after the Lebanese Armed Forces did not respond to the request,” the Israeli army said.

The Lebanese army has not commented so far.

Lebanese security sources in southern Lebanon said that Israeli airstrikes hit mountains in the Iqlim al Tuffah region of southern Lebanon and shook areas on the outskirts of Bint Jbeil town in southern Lebanon.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

A fragile ceasefire between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia has been in place for more than a month. Israeli ground troops are to be gradually withdrawn from Lebanon under the agreement.

Both sides accuse each other of violations. According to Israel, they are still taking military action against threats in the south of the neighboring country, which is allowed under the ceasefire agreement.
