The generous teaser trailer for Supermanwritten and directed by James Gunn, has finally arrived, and you can bet everyone has strong opinions about it, good and bad. Here's a quick summary of the current buzz online.
As far as starters go, this one, from my personal point of view, feels very classic and exciting. It's also the rare type of trailer that doesn't reveal much about the actual plot and character dynamics. That said, we fully expect future promo material to be more daring in its way of selling us on the story and characters. This kind of preview based on vibes is exactly what people needed right now, especially when it's so openly optimistic and the exact opposite of the now dead DCEU plans for Kal-El/ Clark Kent.

Let's start first with the words of praise. It's no surprise that most of the buzz online seems to be positive after this first trailer, especially since Gunn has earned the trust of audiences over a decade. now with the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy (and a great holiday episode), The Suicide Squad, A fairyand Creature commandos. Even when it explores darker themes and plot elements, it remains hopeful and poignant at the end of the day. This Superman reboot seems to double down on that, and it's also a good exercise for the filmmaker after dealing with bloodier issues in his other recent works at the DC camp ( which he now directs with Peter Safran).
“This is a comic book come to life. Superman Nation, we won,” writes ClarkQuill97 on Twitter. As you can tell from the username, this user is big on Superman and probably had high hopes. So far, they are satisfied.
Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane is algo getting tons of stans, even after just one trailer:

PridefulSin's large comic book fanbase is also sold on the film because of the unique focus placed on Superman actually saving and inspiring people. Here are the kind of big voices you want to believe at first sight:

“Krypto is going to put ass in seats,” predicts photographer Dan Veesenmeyer. He might be right. People love a good boy. “I have the biggest smile on my face right now,” sent an Ultima gaming figure. Kicking off your comic book adaptation universe with a super dog in a cape is certainly a clear mission statement!
On the cinephile side of things, buzz seems to be mostly positive, with users suggesting that Superman is back to being an innocent boy scout instead of a bipolar alien. I liked what Zack Snyder had going, but that was the kind of stuff you tried to change. after doing this, not before! “Oh, so this is a real Superman movie and not a mess. ” Even 'Out of Context Simpsons Couch Gags' shock in.
Of course, not everyone is happy with a lighter approach (both thematically and visually) to the characterand some raised valid concerns about some scenes that looked a little too 'made for TV' (we have to remember that the film has just entered post-production though). “I'm not going to be an idiot and say it looks like a 'fake movie' but this is not up to the level of quality I was expecting,” expressed ComicAccuracy with a mild seizure.
BroBible's Eric Italiano also wanted to like what he was seeing, but he is “disturbed by the feeling” and tried to put it into words diplomatically:

You get the idea now. Some people dig the vibe and some don't, maybe because they're still fighting for the 'SnyderVerse' or just because they'd rather have a different idea have on the character. The beauty of comic books, especially when it comes to legendary characters like Superman (who has been around for a long time) is that there are so many equally valid approaches to the character. Gunn's iteration is just bringing back some of the Silver Age style, and if his DCU was successful and progressive, I'm pretty sure the characters and tone would change as well.
Regardless of what you think of the trailer and the movie, we can all agree that Krypto alone could make it a box office success and let's hope he doesn't get hurt by evil businessman Lex Luthor. Everything else is up in the air and will be until the film opens on July 11, 2025.
