The wait is finally over: Our first look at it James Guy's Supermanthe first live-action entry of restart the DCUhas come
While the series is animated Creature commandos (currently airing on Max) technically marks the beginning of this new relaunch of DC movies and TV shows, everyone was eager to see what Gunn and his colleagues were up to prepare for Superman's triumphant return to the big screen, which comes with promises of a more colorful and relaxed universe. It is also said that he does not treat their projects as required homework. Will they take it off? We'll find out soon enough.

Anyway, the first trailer ever arrived today, December 19th, to great anticipation that may or may not translate into strong box office earnings next summer. If anything, Gunn has personally promoted the hell out of every project DC Studios has put out so far, and that includes The Penguinhit HBO show that bridges the gap between 2022 The Batman and Batman part 2which is still being scripted by Matt Reeves. Whether they are part of the main DCU or Elseworld continuity stories, all DC film and TV productions will now go through the Warner Bros. answer. Discovery to Disney and Marvel's far more organized (so far) efforts.
Before we speculate about the trailer's greatest moments, watch it for yourself below:
Crypt! Lex Luthor! Tons of side heroes like Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner! It's really a 'teaser' trailer, and at the heart of it all, you can see a lot of heart, which seems to be Gunn's main strength when it comes to variations in comic books. With about seven months of post-production still to go, this already looks great and is an upgrade even if another Superman reboot.
Plot details haven't been revealed though, and that's for the best. Remember when trailers didn't reveal almost the entire movie and it ran on shaky and mostly fatal scenes? Well, at least this first look at the film does just that, and its riff on John Williams' original score feels fake, but hey, I feel like a film product new superhero. It's been a while. Check back in a few months to see if the second trailer keeps up the positive energy.
Apart from the trailer, the first poster of the film is also very bad. I personally love the vibrant colors and hope the rest of the marketing materials keep them.
The film stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with an all-star supporting cast that includes Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Skyler Gisondo , Wendell Pierce, Edi Gathegi , Sean Gunn, Anthony Carrigan, Alan Tudyk, and more.
Superman releases in theaters on July 11, 2025.
