Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool's 6-3 win over Tottenham was a “championship performance” as well as a statement to Premier League title rivals.
Following Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Everton earlier on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool opened up a four-point gap on Enzo Maresca's side and will now sit in first place ahead of Christmas.
Carragher has since described the victory as a “statement” to other clubs in the title race after the dominant performance away from home.
“It felt like a really big game,” Carragher said Super Sunday.
“Liverpool were fantastic and if you look at Chelsea or Arsenal, you think, 'this team will take a bit of a break'.
“It felt like a statement of victory – a performance of champions. They were so strong.”
Carra: Slott really wanted Tottenham to play like that
The former Liverpool defender went on to discuss Arne Slot's pre-match comments on Tottenham and their style of play, where he praised the “brilliant” job Ange Postecoglou was doing and he shut down claims that his style was “too aggressive”.
“People thought he was protecting Postecoglou, I don't believe that,” Carragher continued.
“He really wanted Tottenham to play the same way. It was obvious. Liverpool could have scored 10!
“It was total control from minute one to 36. It could have been anything today.
“The score flatters Tottenham, it could have been a lot worse. Tottenham are completely beaten.
Alexander-Arnold warned of Madrid's move
Trent Alexander-Arnold's miscued pass to Luis Diaz started the chase at Tottenham Hotspur's stadium and Carragher ended by discussing his England future, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. – season.
Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid but Carragher has advised against the move, saying it could damage his legacy as a homegrown talent.
He said: “It's more than a football decision. It's about his legacy at Liverpool and how he's seen. Do you want to be seen as (Steven) Gerrard or (Steve) McManaman ?
“He went to Real Madrid and won trophies but he is not appreciated.
“As a local player, Trent has been there for 20 years. I don't think it would be a good feeling to leave for free. I promise that the supporters of Liverpool feels like that.
“Things are expected of you as a local player. I think it is difficult to leave Liverpool as a local player.
“I wanted to leave in the right way so that they remembered me in the right way.
“If he stays, he will be remembered as one of the best to play for the club and not far behind Gerrard.
