JAL says it has suspended ticket sales for all Thursday services following the incident.
Japan Airlines (JAL) has reportedly been hit by a cyber attack, causing some flight delays.
The airline has been experiencing “malfunctions in communication systems with external systems” since shortly before 7:30 a.m. local time (23:30 GMT, Wednesday), JAL said Thursday.
JAL temporarily disabled a router causing the disruption shortly before 9 a.m. and is currently “investigating the recovery status of the system,” the Tokyo-based airline said.
“We have identified the extent of the impact and are currently investigating the recovery status of the system,” JAL said.
The airline said domestic and international flights were delayed and had suspended ticket sales for all services scheduled for Thursday.
More than a dozen flights were delayed at several Japanese airports, but there were no major cancellations, public broadcaster NHK said.
All Nippon Airways, JAL's main competitor, said it was not affected by any cyber incidents and that services were operating as normal.
American Airlines canceled all flights on Christmas Eve after experiencing a technical problem involving their network hardware.
