The number of foreign visitors in November was 3.19 million, only slightly down from last month's October monthly record of 3.31 million. In total in the 11 months of 2024, Japan has received 33.4 million visitors and that surpasses the previous record set for the whole of 2019, which was 31.9 million . And there is still another month to go.
A weaker yen and Japan being a wonderful holiday destination in its own right has certainly contributed to this. Not to mention the power of social media. The only issue is that there are concerns about overtourism but that is mostly in a handful of major towns/cities.
Japan is a big and beautiful country to explore, especially places off the beaten track. Personally, I've been there twice this year to enjoy the good food and scenery and to pick up a Pokémon card or two. Respect the culture. Respect the people. Respect the language. And everyone can have a good time. 🌸
