TOKYO (Reuters) – Labor unions at major Japanese auto manufacturers will seek a monthly pay increase of 12,000 yen ($79.15) or more in annual wage talks next spring, the union body said on Wednesday.
This is the first time in seven years that the organization, the Japan Confederation of Automobile Workers Unions, has presented a specific target for the labor negotiations.
The group decided to revive the real target to provide guidance that smaller unions, such as those of parts makers, can speed up their negotiations, the executives said at a press conference.
The group has 12 unions, including the Toyota Motor Workers Union, under its umbrella, with a total of 784,000 workers.
Japan's largest labor union, Rengo, which has the auto union group under its umbrella, is seeking a wage increase of at least 5% in 2025, similar to a big increase this year.
