Former footballer and manager Joey Barton has been charged with two counts of malicious communications.
Following an investigation by Cheshire Police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has given permission for Barton to be charged.
“The charges relate to reports of malicious online communications between Wednesday January 3 and Wednesday March 20, involving two victims,” police said in a statement.
Barton will appear at Magistrates Court at a later date.
