An amazing performance and, for my money, the most amazing, engaging and amazing game this year, UFO 50 Actually a collection of 50 games, all released in the 1980s by the developer UFOSoft. The thing is, however, that UFOSoft never existed. Instead, these are new games, a wonderful smorgasbord of games in different genres – role-playing games, platformers, side-scrolling action games, games in which you explore interesting worlds and find nice upgrades , and more.
Dive in UFO 50 is a very exciting and sometimes branching experience: you will come across both familiar and unfamiliar games, which you have to step back and deal with their different elements as you go you involved in them. Some players have found this difficult, or even cited it as evidence of poor game design. I couldn't disagree more. Maybe it's that I'm old enough to remember 1980s games myself, and to remember what it was like, back then, to come up against mechanics or systems you didn't understand immediately which was common. For me, this process is often part of the fun; it feels like a real process of discovery, tinkering with a game until exactly how it works and what it wants from you becomes clear. It's a type of discovery that has become very rare in games today, but UFO 50 accept it.
Of course, that wouldn't matter if the games were inside UFO 50 They weren't good enough to make all that testing worthwhile, but they are. Among my favorites are Grim stoneJRPG with an Old West theme setting; ValbraceA first-person dungeon crawling RPG that switches to third-person action for combat; and BeardedUFOSoft's first game, a slow-paced mystery adventure seemingly from the early 80s. All new discoveries in Bearded it was an amazing release, and finally finishing it (without looking up ads on the internet) was my most rewarding gaming achievement of the year. Along with these, I loved some of them UFO 50The fastest and most affordable action games: Cyber owls linking thematic dating of games like Warships to a variety of game types, from top to bottom, Metal Gear– esque infiltration to Bad Dudes– side-scrolling punch 'em up style; and Seaside Walk It will have you in glorious summer mood as you shoot down everything from attack helicopters to a giant, flying wizard shark as you race down a coastal road in a red sports car. UFO 50 is a fascinating reminder of how varied and creative video games can be, and it's the one game this year that, more than any other, reminded me why I love the medium so much this. – Carolyn Petit
