Marcus Rashford has been left out of Manchester United's squad for Manchester United's Carabao Cup game against Tottenham.
It comes just days after he was left out of Ruben Amorim's squad for the Manchester derby at the weekend, which United won 2-1. Rashford missed training earlier this week due to illness, however, Amorim confirmed he will be in training ahead of the trip to Spurs.
Rashford's exclusion from the squad comes after the 27-year-old admitted he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview with Henry Winter.
However, United boss Amorim refused to close the door on Rashford's future at Old Trafford and insisted in his pre-match press conference that the England international would be in the team's best interest.
Alejandro Garnacho, who was also dropped for the Manchester derby, is with the United team against Spurs.
'Amorim tries to get out of Rashford'
Sky Sports News' Melissa Reddy:
With no market for Rashford, Amorim has been trying different ways to get out of it. “So long, for example with Rash, you try something, it doesn't work,” he said. “Do we continue to do the same thing? Or something different?”
Being left out of the squad against Manchester City so far has had the desired effect of raising training standards and the player's outlook.
Rashford posted a picture of United celebrating after Amad's stunning winner with the caption, “Yessssssssss! Love it lads” on social media. It was seen as a nod to Amorim's belief that everything, including “communicating with team-mates” will be considered when selecting a match-day squad.
Where will Rashford end up?
Football journalist Henry Winter:
“He made it clear to me when he said a new challenge, that he was away from Old Trafford. There's no doubt about that. Now it's a question of when rather than if. Whether it's it would be a loan in january, it would be a loan. a complicated deal to do for many reasons but it seems to be out the door.
“The only issue with a move to Saudi is that he really wants to get back into the England team and play in the World Cup in America. I don't think Saudi would be right for him. Real Madrid have Kylian Mbappe, Rashford's. not on his level. Barcelona has no money.
