Mario Lemina has been dropped from Wolves captaincy.
Lemina clashed with West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen after Wolves' 2-1 defeat on Monday and then proceeded to push his own team-mates as they tried to settle in and then to go up to Wolves assistant coach Shaun Derry.
Nelson Semedo replaces him as Wolves captain, with Wolves boss Gary O'Neil confirming that the incident against West Ham has sparked discussion about the captain.
“Mario's doing well,” O Neil said. “It was a conversation, it was nothing more than that. The most important thing to come out of it is that we have to get the best out of everyone.
“Of course, the other night sparked the conversation, but it was an important conversation that needed to be had.
“Mario and I now have a good understanding of how we move forward and what it looks like. We dealt with it earlier this week, so the focus since then has been firmly on Ipswich.
“These things, sometimes they can be difficult to deal with and sometimes you can come out in a good place, and I feel like we have that.
“I have a lot of respect for Mario and what he's still going to do for us. When we get the best out of him on the pitch, his level is so high that he's still going to play a big part for us. .
“It will still be around that group of key players leading the team, but at the moment we feel it is best for Nelson to lead the group.
Lemina's apology: We are going to fight to overcome this situation
The day after the game, Lemina went to social media to apologize for his actions. He wrote:
“I write this message with a good attitude and I really want to apologize to all the people who love this club and who love football.
“I never wanted this to happen on earth. I have always been a fair player, even in defeat.
“If something is said, make sure the truth comes out.
“I shook this player's hand, as I always do and I was grabbed by the shirt and thrown to the ground.
“I love my team, the staff, and everyone at this club.
“We are all going to fight harder to overcome this situation. Shaun (Derry) you already know. We will fight again and again.”
As we reported on Lemina's gruesome fights after the match
Sky Sports' Peter Smith at the London Stadium:
“Wolves captain Mario Lemina is furious at full time. There is a rift between the two sets of players, but his frustration continues, even pushing his partner Toti and one of the Wolves coaches.
“Other teammates try to calm him down but eventually he is carried off the field as the rest of the Wolves players applaud the end.
“West Ham supporters are enjoying it with ironic glee!”
