The Russian Foreign Ministry has criticized German Ambassador Alexander Graf Lambsdorff after he called for peace in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel on Sunday that Lambsdorff should direct his appeals to the West and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The West, which encourages the continuation of bloodshed through the delivery of weapons, is directly responsible for the deaths, she said.
The criticism was fueled by Lambsdorff's comments at a Christmas concert in Moscow in front of several hundred spectators, where he expressed his hope for peace.
Zakharova had also criticized the ambassador the previous year for celebrating the victims of war at the Christmas ceremony.
The speaker later confirmed in another post on Telegram that she was not criticizing the message of peace but, for example, what she called Germany's involvement in the 2014 coup in Ukraine, the delivery of weapons and ban on negotiations with the West.
Almost three years ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin began attacking Ukraine with a massive missile attack on the neighboring country. Since then, hundreds of cities and towns in Ukraine have been destroyed.
Estimates suggest that tens of thousands of people, including many civilians, were killed.
Many war crimes, especially by the Russian army, were recorded. Nevertheless, only Ukraine and the West are responsible for the violence at the Kremlin.
Zakharova reiterated that Kiev had blocked the peace talks. Russia shows itself as a person willing to engage in external negotiations but setting conditions for peace negotiations that end with the president of Ukraine.
