My favorite game of 2025 is an untitled and dateless game, but it's one that I hope will make me fall in love with my favorite shooter series all over again.

The next thing will be Battlefield save the series and bring him back as a major player in the shooting range? Is that something he could even do? EA would certainly like the answer to both of those questions to be 'yes', and the publisher has been working to find every possible advantage to help get it.

These intentions could easily fall on the shores of a terrible launch, leaving it to be appreciated only by the few who have been involved with Battlefield all these years. As a long time fan, I really want this next Battlefield to not only deliver, I also want a new top shooter to go back on a regular basis.

We know very little – almost nothing – about the next Battlefield game. EA hasn't even officially said if it will be coming out in 2025, but the timeline and all recent developments at the publisher's various studios make me think 2025 is the year that makes the most sense.

EA wants to reinvent them Call of Duty: Warzone set up with the next Battle Royale, so the core, high-level game may come out in late 2025, only for a free-to-play battle royale mode to follow in early 2026.

We know that some form of testing will begin in early 2025but it seems to be limited and heavily NDA'd, so it may not end up telling us about the nature of the game in a satisfactory way. All signs tell us that the next Battle will be today's setting, and that it will be a return to the format of the long-running classes in the series.

None of that guarantees we'll get a “good” game, of course – it just shows that EA's head, at least when it comes to identifying what players want, is in the right place right This is what I'm excited to see and play.

The thing about Battlefield is that many of its core elements can be found elsewhere. Combined arms combat, asymmetric classes, slower gameplay, large maps – and even destruction in some cases – are all in other games. But no single shooter combines them in the same way. Even the recently released ones Delta Force serving only as a memorial to him why is it not easy to recreate that formula, as confusing as that might be.

The more Battlefield fails, however, the more that idea fades away. We all know a lot of former Battlefield players who are now spending their time in other games, and I'm willing to bet that none of them will tell you that any of these games can do the same to scratch an itch – they offer just enough to keep you depressed, but not so much that you can realistically call them “the next Battlefield.”
