Chelsea striker Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended by the Football Association for a “bad finding in a routine urine test”.
The Premier League club announced on Tuesday that the Football Association had contacted Mudryk and said the 23-year-old insisted he had “never knowingly used banned substances”. .
Mudryk said in a statement on social media that this is a “total shock” and that he “did nothing wrong”.
Chelsea's statement read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that the Football Association contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk recently regarding a negative finding in a routine urine test.
“The club and Mykhailo fully support the FA's testing program and all our players, including Mykhailo, will be tested regularly.
“Mykhailo has clearly demonstrated that he has never knowingly used prohibited substances. Mykhailo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to find out what caused the bad discovery.
“The club will no longer comment.
Mudryk joined Chelsea in January 2023 in an £88.5m move from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
