Washington – The former Speaker of the House has been hospitalized after being injured as part of a congressional delegation on a trip to Luxembourg, her office said Friday.
“While traveling with a bipartisan delegation in Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi was injured during an official engagement and was hospitalized for evaluation, “speaker Ian Krager said in a statement. . “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”
The nature of the injury was not immediately clear. Krager said Pelosi continues to work from the hospital and “looks forward to returning home to the US soon.”
Pelosi, 84, was the Democratic leader of the House for 20 years, including two terms as speaker, previously. going to one side two years ago. She won another term to represent her San Francisco district in Congress in November, and is still an influential figure in the party, with the title of speaker emerita.
The congressional delegation on the trip to Luxembourg included members of both parties, including GOP representative Michael McCaul, the outgoing chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. A total of 18 lawmakers traveled to commemorate the Battle of the Bulge, the last major German offensive on the western front in World War II.
