- Any momentum built up over July-September has now returned to being a backdrop to the sector
- Negative comments in October showed similar patterns to previous months, focusing on the lack of orders and the cost of living.
BNZ chief economist Doug Steel:
- The core message of the manufacturing sector remains under severe pressure. Recent industry surveys report that manufacturers are feeling more confident about the outlook, but there is little evidence of a general change in activity so far
