One person was rescued from a house fire in Etobicoke on Sunday and one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessup said police and firefighters were called to a house on Upper Humber Road about 12:30 p.m.
Jessup said they had received several reports of children trapped inside the home. Police officers first arrived at the scene of the fire and went inside to look for them, but the children were not found, Jessup said.
The fire was so deep that firefighters saw flames coming from several kilometers away when they arrived at the scene, Jessup said.
Firefighters rescued a man during a search of the home, who had no vital symptoms but was revived by paramedics. Jessop said they were taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition.
No one else was found inside the house. Jessup said the officers who got inside were treated at a hospital for minor injuries and smoke inhalation before firefighters arrived.
The fire chief said that the fire was brought under control in about half an hour, but the team was at the scene to ensure that there were no hot spots that could ignite again.
