Ontario police are investigating a complaint from the Pickering City Council

Ontario Provincial Police say they are investigating criminal allegations brought forward by Pickering's city council.

The OPP said Durham Regional Police forwarded the allegations to them in November, but they have not released any details on the matter.

It comes after Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe said the city's integrity commissioner had filed a police complaint against the council. Lisa Robinson may be aiding and abetting criminal harassment with her participation in the “far-right” media.

Durham Police said last week they were aware of the cases and had turned the investigation over to the OPP.

Ashe announced last week that city council east of Toronto was moving its meetings online following alleged threats from Robinson's supporters.

The police investigation is the latest development in an escalating conflict between Robinson and the City Council that began more than a year ago.

The councilor has been embroiled in a series of controversies and is currently on a second consecutive 90-day suspension with pay since September.

Robinson, who was elected in 2022, has previously denied the allegations against him.
